Right now, an image uploaded to Picfair by an engineer from Belfast is on the front cover of National Geographic Traveller. It’s the perfect end to a year that has seen Picfair grow across the globe, on a mission to make image licensing open, simple, and fair. By opening our doors to every type of photographer, from any background, and of any level of experience, we’re bringing a new generation of images to publishers and businesses everywhere - images that truly reflect the richness and diversity of the world we live in. Picfair is powered by a growing community of over 30,000 fairly-paid photographers across the globe (we've reversed the prevalent industry model that sees photographers losing the vast majority of their image fees to middlemen). And every day, they astound us. The list below was curated from a longlist of over 1,000 astonishing images selected from among millions of uploads we received this year. The range is breathtaking - from meticulously-composed shots of the natural world to impromptu street-level snapshots; from stunning aerial vistas to intimate, arresting portraits. And as ever, this Picfair collection is truly global, featuring photographers from 32 countries. To everyone included, congratulations, and thank you. And to any photographers out there who haven’t yet uploaded their first image to Picfair… we welcome you. And finally, to publishers and businesses looking for a new generation of images, please get in touch … we’ve got some amazing photographers to introduce you to. • Read more: Picfair's Women Behind The Lens exhibition launches at the Guardian
