Interview with Julius Fiedler

Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?

I am a restless soul that will never grow up. I am curious about the world and hungry for more.

What's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?

Taking pictures in Marrakech is a special experience. Locals don’t like to be photographed, if you don’t roll the dime. I found myself several times haggling over how much I should pay for the next shot and taking the picture was a hectic experience with a grim subject.

What do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?

I started out on the Canon 600D with the standard 18-55mm zoom lens, then added the 50mm prime lens for portrait photography. As I went on I found myself being drawn to travel photography and decided to sell the Canon and purchase the Fujifilm X-T1 with the standard 18-55mm lens. A choice that I haven’t regretted since.

What's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?

Don’t make your head spin about finding your own theme. Go out and shoot, explore, learn… and your theme will find you.

And finally, what’s the one thing you love most about Picfair?

Control. I can choose which pictures I’d like to sell and Picfair will offer them with the right licence and for the price I pick.

“I’m not a big fan of crowded places and the Basilica di San Marco in Venice is one of the major sights. Thus, I tried to stay away as far as possible, but also didn’t want to leave without visiting it. So it wasn’t until my last day in Venice, that I decided to get up early and push it in before the flight. When I walked out of the door, the city was tucked away in a soft cloud of fog. It was the perfect time to take some shots in a special setting.” Read less

“At first, the Zagora desert seemed to be a flat field of a rather dull mix of reddish earth and tiny stones. We camped in Berber tents and got up early the next morning. The sun just rose, but was still hidden behind a hill further away. My curiosity won the upper hand and I made my way up there. It paid off!” Read less
