Hi Julia! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
Based in the UK, I took up photography seriously about 6 years ago. I feel I’m very fortunate to be able to bring my love of nature and travel together through the medium of photography.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
AOne very cold March night in Iceland, I found myself oblivious to the fact that I was standing up to my knees in a deep pile of stinking, rotting seaweed as I gazed in wonder at the magic of the Aurora Borealis. I didn’t want to leave.
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
AI shoot with Canon gear and a range of lenses from wide angle to telephoto. I recently upgraded to the amazing 1DX Mark II but my first DSLR was the Canon 60D. For hide photography my ‘go to’ lens is the Canon 200-400mm but when walking any great distances I prefer the much more portable Canon 100-400mm mark II.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
ATake the time to learn about your subject, your camera, light and composition but, above all, enjoy what you are doing. Your enjoyment will show through in your images.

One favourite is that of a suslik (ground squirrel) taken as I lay on the ground, under the cover of a scrim net. Photographs taken at this level give you a fascinating insight into the world of these small mammals. Read less
