Hi Janusz! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
Hi! My name is Janusz Pieńkowski, and I live in Poland. I'm a graduate who works as a manager, but recently I've been spending more time working as a professional photographer. I love to photograph wild animals in their natural environment.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
AWhile photographing wildlife I've been in a lot of weird situations. I recently came across a newborn elk, which was approaching in my direction, squealing. I quickly took some pictures of it and left, because I saw that its mother was nearby :)
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
ARight now I shoot with a full frame camera, the Canon 5D Mark 3. My favourite lenses are the CANON EF 400 mm f/2.8 LIS II and the CANON EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 LIS II. I sometimes use the CANON Extender 1.4x III. For macro shots I use the Canon EF 100 mm f / 2.8 LIS and Sigma 150 mm f / 2.8 OS. My favourite walk around zoom lenses are the Canon EF 16-35mm f / 4 LIS and Canon EF 24-105 mm f / 4 LIS.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
AIf you are a novice wildlife photographer, my advice is: watch. Before I take a good picture of a wild animal, I walk for many kilometres with my binoculars. I walk and watch - where and when animals go out into the clearing, so that I can capture them.
