Hi Dominique! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
I am a landscape photographer living in Switzerland. My love of photography pushes me wandering in nature as often as I can. It’s a pleasure being in beautiful locations, simply appreciating these inspiring moments, while taking pictures!
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
A While taking long exposures along a lake in Switzerland, weather conditions were very windy. My camera was on the tripod and I was trying my best to protect my gear from the wind, after some successful shots the wind seemed to decrease and I paid less attention to the weather. I decided to change my lens, with my photo bag behind me on a bench, I left my setup and while opening my bag, a sudden burst of wind blew away my tripod and camera. They both fell down in the water! My planned trip was to go to Iceland two weeks later, before this accident, I had the idea to acquiring a new camera, but now it was obvious, I needed to do it, and quickly!
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
AI am currently using Canon EOS 5D MkIV. My favorite lens for shooting landscapes is by far my new Canon 11-24mm lens. I use this ultra wide angle lens when I want to emphasize a really attractive foreground and to express a great sense of depth, in many locations it leads to very creative and impressive images. As I am also shooting long exposures, the Little and Big Stopper filters from Lee are part of my camera bag. These filters block much of the incoming light, you can then select a longer exposure time to smooth out the water or record nice clouds movements.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
AIn fact there are many tips for an aspiring photographer, my main one would be, always look for interesting lights, colors, shapes and angles while wandering in nature. It’s amazing how many people do not see the beauty of a specific place by simply passing by without noticing it. My second tip, is to look for simple and clean subjects - less is more!
QWhat's the one thing you love most about Picfair?
A Thanks to a well-designed website, uploading images to Picfair is just a breeze - Picfair is a simple but effective way to show your images to a large audience.
