Hi David! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
Hello everyone, my name is David Hui, and I am an amateur photographer from Hong Kong. I mainly take landscape pictures in China, Hong Kong and other places on vacations and I also capture pictures of people’s daily lives and aspects of life that make people think.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
AI try not to get into weird situations, as I like to avoid trouble! If this counts, I almost lost the chance to take the beautiful sunrise at Huang Shan where there’s rain and cloud most days of the year. I gave up my favourite position when the sun had risen to a certain level above the horizon, and as soon as I walked away my place was filled by other people. My wife persuaded me to stay for a while longer, and I suddenly heard people cheering and whistling, I turned back and saw the clouds started to become red. I couldn’t wait to capture the scene, and at that moment an old men saw me and generously gave his favourable viewing position to me. Thanks to my wife and the respectful old man!
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
AAll my pictures were shot on digital from DC to DSLR. For landscape photography, I mainly use a Nikon D700 + 17-35mm zoom lens. Recently, I’ve been shooting pictures with film because I love the saturation and grain that give my pictures a different grace.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
APractice more is important to get familiar with various techniques, and reading other photographers’ works can broaden your view on taking photos. But most of all, press the shutter with your blessings at the magic moment.
