Hi Carlos! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
I am a very critical person and that makes me a pessimist, apparently. Saramago used to say: 'The only people interested in changing the world are pessimists, because optimists are delighted with what they have'.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
A When somebody was a putting a pistol to my forehead, while I was taking a photo of a landscape near Mexico City. The photo wasn't anything special. I was just a victim of corruption and violence, issues which scourge that country. In the end, he just took my camera's memory card.
QWhat's your favourite thing to shoot?
AI have been traveling around different European countries for 9 years. Cities, small villages, parks… I love places full of character, like the Raval in Barcelona, Lavapies in Madrid, and the character of Lisbon in general. I also like deserted places, like Baja California and Sonora in Mexico, or Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Those are my favourite corners of the earth.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
ABe sincere with what you consider original. Simplicity of language is the natural result of conversing with yourself.
