A photographic technique once shunned by many; crank up the camera light sensitivity to over ISO 800 (dare I say 1600?) and the results can be truly remarkable. We all know how it works - the higher you go with the ISO, the 'noisier', or grainier your image will be. Great for low light scenarios, but how about other situations?
A noisy image, shot in a high ISO setting and be it in any lighting environment, can add a captivating layer to the story behind the picture. Grainy images are characteristic of early photography and also have a cinematic elegance to them - ideal for an advertising campaign with something a little different. They are also extremely popular in the publishing market - just take a look at the many book covers featuring grainy, gritty images that give context to the detective mystery laid out on the pages behind them.
And unlike other agencies, here at Picfair, we welcome grainy, noisy, gritty and bitty pictures with open arms - take a look at some our finest, noisest photographs from across the collection.
