Introducing Picfair Prints

20 August 2018

Posted by Benji Lanyado

Picfair’s mission is to help any photographer, from any background, make money from their creativity. Until now, we’ve focussed on digital downloads - creating a radically simple way for photographers to licenses their images to publishers and businesses across the globe for editorial, marketing and advertising use.

Increasingly, however, we’ve seen customers license Picfair images for something else entirely: they license a digital download, and then take it to a print shop to make it into a framed fine art print or a canvas for their home. It’s something we’ve done ourselves - Picfair’s office is full of prints featuring images taken by our incredible community of over 35,000 photographers across the world.  With the launch of Picfair Prints, selling your Picfair images as wall art for homes or offices is about to become much, much easier.

From September 3rd, unless a photographer has opted out of Picfair Prints, every image they’ve uploaded to the site will have a “printed products” button next to the licensing options. From there, customers can order images as framed prints, canvases, or professional prints, in a range of sizes and shipped anywhere in the world.

What do our photographers have to do? Nothing.  Picfair will facilitate the entire process - from the order to the print production to the delivery. Every time a customer buys one of your images as a printed product, you will receive the license fee you’ve set for the image, exactly as you would if the image was licensed for an Editorial or Commercial licence. In launching Prints, we spent a number of months selecting our print partner from a variety of leading global options, and feel confident that the quality of the products are excellent.

The professional prints are giclee, inkjet-printed onto Matte Ultra 240gsm paper in a choice of Lustre Photo or Smooth art finishes; the canvas wraps will be printed on high-quality artist stock and wrapped around timber frames with a choice of white or black white wrapped edges; and the framed prints will come printed on gloss paper with a choice of black or white timber frames. All products will be shipped ready to hang.

We’ve put together a comprehensive FAQ on exactly how prints will work here - but if you’ve got any questions that aren’t answered there, please don’t hesitate to email hello@picfair.com. If you don’t want your images to be made available as prints, please change your print settings in your dashboard.

The addition of printed products alongside digital downloads also lays the rails for another significant product release over the coming weeks, when we’ll be unveiling personalised “stores” for every single photographer on the platform - a beautiful, standalone site for you to showcase your images as both downloads and prints, “powered by Picfair” but separate from our marketplace (where your images will still be available at the same time). Keep your eyes peeled.
