They celebrated equality and utilitarianism. From the sleek, minimalistic designs of Marcel Breuer or the Bauhaus school to Bertold Brecht’s opuses that follow the struggles of the everyday man, each and every piece is designated to put the emphasis on the similarities that unite a population in place of the differences that divide it. While communist culture may appear monochrome and homogeneous, its monuments and architecture are anything but.
