After the sweltering bank holiday weekend it may be difficult to believe that autumn is almost upon us, but come Friday it’s official. With its crunching leaves and the smell of wood burning fires, the weeks of festivities, and the comfort of a good woolly jumper, autumn is the perfect antidote to a summer heatwave that might be beginning to outstay its welcome. It is also a period of incredibly breathtaking beauty - a world of blazing reds and oranges, from the leaves that adorn the trees and the leaping flames of bonfires, to the sunsets that wash the world in colour. Keats described it as a ‘season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’, and whilst words might never capture autumn’s charms more beautifully than these, there are certainly photographs that come close. Here is our selection of incredible images that will have you longing for that familiar nip in the air.
