The Town Hall of Wellesley, Massachusetts sits on a shallow rise above Washington Street (and yes, General George Washington DID ride down this road, on his way to Cambridge, Massachusetts!) Wellesley was incorporated in 1881, and quickly became a leafy outer suburb of the city of Boston. The Town Hall was constructed in the French Chateau style, with...

This 'big brother' of the Land Rover, was used by the British Army, and a few other forces. It could tow a field gun, carry a one ton load, or be fitted out as a command vehicle or an ambulance. The Royal Air Force Regiment used them to tow Rapier missile batteries and haul their Blindfire radar units.

Here we see an old stone gatepost, colonized by lichen, at the end of a dry stone wall in Derbyshire. The original wooden gate has been replaced by a galvanized tubular steel one, attached to a new wooden gatepost. Note also that the stone wall's function has been replaced by strands of barbed wire.

The dry stone wall on our left is typical of the region. The path is lined by grasses, dandelions and cow parsley. Sheffield is just visible in the distance.

No, this isn't an art installation, it is York Minster, when a major restoration project was taking place on certain sections of the Mediaeval stonework. The use of scaffolding and blue/green sheeting gives almost a 'glass skyscraper' effect

Often objects are re-purposed during their lifetimes. Here we see a series of British railway vans which have been withdrawn from use, and are now being used as storage units on a heritage railway in the UK. You can still make out the typical corrugated sheet metal ends, and the wooden, plank sides. Temporary steel lugs have been welded to some of them,...

Summer in the U.K. can be cruel - especially if you are organizing anything outdoors! Here is the effect of a downpour on a major aviation event. As you can see, the emergency vehicles are standing by, and the crowd barriers are ready for the crowds...but the rain has come, rather than the people!
