Women Behind the Lens exhibition launches at The Guardian

11 December 2017

Posted by Benji Lanyado

Picfair's Women Behind the Lens exhibition opens today at The Guardian newspaper's gallery in London, showcasing the exceptional shortlisted images selected from over 4,000 competition entries. Announced by the Guardian on Friday, the shortlist covers an extraordinary range of female photographers - alongside professionals, the exhibition features work shot by an ambulance paramedic, an engineer, an archaeologist, and an interior designer.

The Women Behind the Lens competition features 20 shortlisted images selected from over 4,000 entrants

The exhibition will run until January 11th, when the category winners and overall winners will be announced. The gallery is open from 10am to 6pm daily, and can be found at Guardian News & Media, Kings Place, 90 York Way, London, N1 9GU.

Picfair was formed to make stock photography fair, authentic, and diverse. With Women Behind the Lens, we aim to celebrate and showcase the work of women within a creative field where they are hugely under-represented - just 2% of photographers on the books at major commercial agencies are women, and for every woman ambassador working for the major camera brands, there are 6 men. After the exhibition closes, the work of every female photographer entered in Women Behind the Lens will continue to be showcased to our global audience of publishers and businesses.

The exhibition will run until January 11th at the exhibition entrance to the Guardian newspaper on York Way, King Cross, London

The shortlisted images were selected by an eminent judging panel including the Guardian's Head of Photography
