Since launching Women Behind The Lens four weeks ago, entries have poured in from across the globe. Over 4,000 images were submitted by female photographers in over 40 countries, and the standard has been exceptional. Today we’re thrilled to announce the five shortlisted images from our four categories - portrait, architecture, nature, and street level - chosen by an esteemed panel of judges. The images are a stunning illustration of Picfair's "open to all" principle: alongside professional photographers, shortlisted entrants include paramedics, engineers, interior designers and archaeologists.
These stunning images are now being exhibited at the entrance gallery of the world’s leading media organisations - Guardian News & Media, Kings Place, 90 York Way, Kings Cross, London N1 9GU. The exhibition will run until January 11th, when the category winners and overall winners will be announced.
Picfair was formed to make stock photography fair, authentic, and diverse. With Women Behind the Lens, we aim to celebrate and showcase the work of women within a creative field where they are hugely under-represented - just 2% of photographers on the books at major commercial agencies are women, and for every woman ambassador working for the major camera brands, there are 6 men. After the exhibition closes, the work of every female photographer entered in Women Behind the Lens will continue to be showcased to our global audience of publishers and businesses.
