Picfair's Women Behind The Lens 2018 -Shortlist

Picfair’s Women Behind the Lens competition was launched in 2017 to celebrate the exceptional work being produced by female photographers joining our global community of over 35,000 contributors. The inaugural competition was won by Emma Williams - an ambulance paramedic from Milton Keynes, and we were delighted to be able to continue the competition in 2018. 

This year, Women Behind the Lens received 2500 entries submitted from 52 countries around the world. The standard of entries was outstanding, and our panel of industry experts had a challenging time deciding on the final images.  

Today we’re thrilled to announce the five shortlisted images from our four categories - portrait, architecture, nature, and street level. The images are a stunning illustration of Picfair's "open to all" principle: the shortlisted photographers come from 11 different countries, and alongside professional photographers, shortlisted entrants include tour guides, finance analysts, interior designers and archivists.

The shortlisted entries will be exhibited at the entrance gallery of the world’s leading media organisations - Guardian News & Media, Kings Place, 90 York Way, Kings Cross, London N1 9GU from 1st - 30th November  2018. The category winners and overall winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on November 1st.

Picfair’s open platform allows every type of photographer, from any background, to showcase and sell their work - through their own personalised stores and through the Picfair marketplace, where millions of images are curated to give image buyers a more diverse and authentic perspective of the world. After the exhibition closes, the work of every female photographer entered in Women Behind the Lens will continue to be showcased to their global audience of publishers and businesses.
