Considering Britain's woodlands only cover 13% of the total landmass, they are absolutely teeming with nature. And, whilst we can't boast a jaw-dropping array of tropical wildlife and weird and wonderful creatures that can be found in the world's rainforests, what we do have is a gentle, charming and quintessentially British type of wildlife: with national favourites such as the hedgehog, robin and badger all calling the woodlands their home.
As well as old favourites that have inspired writers and creatives for centuries (Animals of Farthing Wood, anyone?), let's not forget the insects, arachnids and slippery friends such as the newt and the adder, that can be found on the forest floor, the multitude of beautiful birds high up in the branches and the lesser-seen, but wonderful creatures such as the pine marten, wildcat and the red squirrel.
Who ever said Britain's wildlife was dull?
