Ordinarily we’d be only too happy to extol the virtue of an image drenched in mind-blowing detail, depth and perception. But today isn’t one of those days, folks. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, but sometimes less is, without question, absolutely more. On days like these, the devil very much happens to lie in the detail best left unseen. A point never more apparent, perhaps, than in the art of the silhouette image. Stripped bare but for a stark subject outline, silhouette photography relies heavily on those most basic of essentials; light, form and contrast. Between bright negative space and sharply-defined focal form, silhouettes offer simplicity, drama, mystery, and interpretation of a manner very much out of reach when detail runs boldly through frame. From backlit days at the beach to moody depth underground, intense opportunity engages across the board. Check out a selection of the very best from the Picfair collection.
