Geometric shapes and patterns are a regular feature in photography and a useful tool for photographers to explore in the frame, but with this post we’re celebrating just one such shape: the circle. So, some of them may not be a perfect circle, but we’re sure you’ll agree the images chosen for this gallery are very nearly there. ‘Shouldn’t all photographs be circular due to the lens also being circular?’ I thought to myself very proudly when I was 10 years old; missing a few practical points about the sensor within the camera, and thousands of years of paintings and other art forms that were always rectangular or square-shaped that photography was keen to emulate as a tradition. Although 10 year old me is claiming a victory of sorts, with early daguerreotypes producing images that were indeed elliptical. Ramblings aside, here is a gallery of images where photographers have very cleverly worked a circle of some sort into the frame, with some outstanding results.
