Picfair’s algorithm features in The Scotsman

21 March 2017

Posted by Gemma Suyat

Half human, half algorithm, our unique algorithm (PICKED) was tried and tested by Scotland’s national newspaper, The Scotsman, to reveal the country's best images.

Type ‘Scotland’ into Google Images and you’ll find millions of photographs of the country’s famous and iconic landmarks and people. But what if you want only the highest quality images to appear first? Our algorithm does just that − it’s essentially a digital replication of our taste, helping buyers select the best images from the millions of images uploaded to Picfair from every corner of the globe.

Using the algorithm, the images that rose to the top of The Scotsman search reflected a more quirky, intimate and human side to the country. Shots featured in the article included an incredible aerial of Dunnet Head, and a beautifully lustrous shot of a fishing boat heading out across the Firth of Clyde on summer’s evening — this wasn’t shot by a pro, it was captured by a local stone mason. Another image, a striking shot of a construction crane that appears to be holding up the setting sun, was taken by an amateur photographer in Holyrood Park.

Our algorithm doesn’t care whether you’re an award-winning pro or total amateur − we want our buyers to have access to the world's best images. Sign up to Picfair today to get access to our library produced by photographers in over 130 countries and let our algorithm help you discover quality images, quicker.
