Favourite photographer:
I tend to draw my inspiration for my photography from a vast number of photographers and this enables me to expand my experience and try out new genres of photography. In recent years I have been very drawn to modern architecture photography and have followed the work of Andrew Prokos quite closely. I am also inspired to work more in black and white with its harsher and more dramatic tones and have used Ansel Adams work as a benchmark for some of my work. At the other end of the scale, I very much enjoy photographing dogs and love the quirky work of Christian Vieler whose dogs catching treats photos are hilarious.
Top tip for other photographers:
Modern photography is very fast-moving both in terms of technology and especially with social media the desire to be acknowledged as a great photographer. This can sometimes get in the way of and overtake the satisfaction and enjoyment there can be in taking photos in the first place. Everybody has their own interpretation of the world around us and therefore photography is a very personal pastime. The key is to enjoy photography for you and if others enjoy it as well see it as a bonus.
Favourite photograph:
There are a number of photographs I could have chosen but I think the one that gives me the most satisfaction is Rainbow Sunrise Over Landermere Quay in Essex (see below).
Landermere Quay is a very tranquil part of Essex on Hamford Waters and an area that I visit very regularly for its brilliant sunsets and contrasting weather and conditions. On this particular morning in October 2020, I was lucky enough to be there when a series of rain showers passed through just as the sun was at the right height to form a brilliant Rainbow. While rainbows aren't unusual this was a morning rainbow and visible in the western half of the sky as opposed to the usual later afternoon Eastern sky rainbows. As a result, the arch of the rainbow formed beautifully over the picturesque Quay inlet with building and trees in the background. Perhaps not a once in a lifetime photo but very close.
