Interview with Lamarr Golding

10 March 2017

Posted by Gemma Suyat

Hi Lamarr! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?

My name is Lamarr Golding, I'm 21 and I'm a london-based freerunner, urban explorer and photographer. I mainly document the architecture around me, the people I meet on my adventures and the urban cultures I come across.

QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?

AThe weirdest situation I've had whilst shooting was when I was in New Jersey and I was getting shots in this abandoned train yard. This security officer stopped and came up to me really quickly, I thought I was going to get in trouble but then he ended up talking to me about the train yard and what it used to be, and actually let me stay and get more photos! I wouldn't say this was a particularly weird experience but definitely a situation I'd never get into when exploring an abandoned spot.

QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?

AI shoot with a Canon 6D and 24mm 1.4, which has got to be my most favourite set up. I only occasionally have to ever switch to another lens because it's such a neat combo for me!

QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?

AMy number one tip for an aspiring photographer has got to be to not worry about getting the next "best" camera gear out there, but focus more on what you're actually shooting, go out there and just shoot as much as you can. Experiment with compositions and manual settings if you have that capability to really expand your creative possibilities, from then you'll gradually learn a lot about your tastes and style.

QWhat's the one thing you love most about Picfair?

A What I love most about Picfair is the fact that you can showcase your work to other like-minded and creative photographers and audiences alike, whilst also being able to set your own prices for your photos and sell them. I think it's great that the site has such flexibility and allows you to sell your photos for what you really think they're worth! I also find 'Picfair Picks' enjoyable to read as well, I love looking at other talented photographers' work and I'd say it's quite a place for inspiration.

"My favourite photo I've uploaded to Picfair has got to be this one. We went on a rooftop to capture the 'e', mainly because that shot was so spontaneous and natural and ended up coming out incredibly well. I think the timing for the shot was almost perfect and considering I was actually balancing on the red beam myself to capture the shot makes this picture particularly memorable. The backdrop couldn't have been any better aswell, I'm still so happy about how well everything from the colours of the sky and cityscape all the way to the composition came together. " Read less
