Vanishing points can be a mind bending marvel, but they’re not always easily perceived by the naked eye. We are so well attuned to comprehending depth that the optical tricks by which we navigate the world barely tickle our consciousness. As testimony to this, perspective did not appear in art until the early Renaissance, which means that it arguably took us about 55 millennia to learn how to capture it. Cameras, on the other hand, figured it out in the click of a button and tricks of perspective quickly became a powerful tool in the photographer’s arsenal.
