A 'microstate' can be roughly defined as a country that covers a significantly small land area, or a nation home to a notably small population (however often both). And, whilst defining a country as a 'microstate' is never black and white, there are 29 countries that, given the criteria above can be defined as such.
The world's micronations are scattered across the globe, but particular concentrations can be found in the Carribean, Europe, and Oceana. And don't be fooled by their size: these pint-sized countries pack a serious punch and are home to some of the world's most developed economies and some the greatest landscapes Planet Earth has to offer.
Our wonderfully diverse and talented pool of photographers have travelled far-and-wide to the world's microstates to make images of some of the most unique places on Earth available for license. As ever we are proud to champion their work - just take a look at our incredible hand-picked selection of images from some the world's tiniest nations: truly awe-inspiring. 🙌
