Did you know that roughly forty-seven percent of Greater London’s surface area is green space? Yes, really. The number may sound surprising to those who think of London as the typical dull, grey, rained-out wasteland it often gets portrayed as in novels and films (in fact, London gets less rain than the rest of the UK, and less than places like Miami, New York and Mexico City!). But those who live in the capital will surely be familiar with its extensive parks, heaths, gardens and even forests, which provide a place of refuge in an otherwise teeming city.
