Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
My name is Val Vesa and I am a social media strategist who happens to be very passionate about photography and I also travel a lot for business - so I try to mix the three.
What's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
Just recently, when taking this photo, and I explained in the caption what happened...
"Cannot fight the Sun with rocks and water, you will lose. But what a beautiful scenery this fight is. In front of the hotel, in Sri Lanka, on the beach of the Indian Ocean, there's beauty in the sky. So happy I was there for it. I almost broke my leg, as I was running from my room to the beach, got the camera ready and as I was about to shoot, "NO CARD" started flickering on my display. Another run back, as I left my card in the laptop, jumped over the fence surrounding the hotel and fell in the sand, but held my camera high. My knees bruised, my elbow twisted and just stopped in time before breaking my leg, left the flip flops there, ran across the swimming pool court, entered my room, got my card and back again on the beach. Then I shot this. Now that you know the story behind it, yeah, it is not easy to get that perfect moment, some have to struggle ."
What do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
I shoot with both my iPhone (6S) and my camera (Sony Alpha 7). I like to shoot sunsets and sunrises (my favourites) and low light settings.
What's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
Keep practicing EVERY day. Do not rely on presets and auto "magic" tricks, but learn all there is to learn about your camera and practice daily.
What's your favourite pic you've uploaded to Picfair? Tell us about it!
This one. The caption tells the story and the "why".
"I was watching him taking a rather awkward swim and run in the water, with the sun going down behind him. Never once had he look at the sun, as if he was unaware of the magnificent show in the sky. He was too busy chasing the waves and sprinkling water all over the place. He was also totally unaware of me being there, feet away from him, until this moment, when he laid on his back on the sand, water reaching his neck, sticking his toes out and then it hit him. I heard a "wow" sort of sound when the boy realised the immensity of the nature spectacle in his face, he paused for a mere second, he cleaned his eyes and looked carefully at the rapidly changing clouds and sun show, but in 5 seconds he was already running down the beach, towards the couple that seemed to be his parents."
And finally, what’s the one thing you love most about Picfair?
I love the multiple licensing options Picfair offer.
