Interview with Swee Ming Young

27 May 2016

Posted by Anna Fraser

Hi Swee Ming! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?

I am a civil servant working as an administrator for a water company. I love to spend my spare time taking photographs of whatever I see. I will be retiring in a couple of years so photography will be an ardent companion.

QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?

AThere are times when I feel like going out to take pics of insects (or macroing), but somehow I started seeing different species of insects flying into my home and I just can’t resist taking my camera out to shoot them. Looks like they want me to take their pics!

QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?

AI spend most of my time shooting macro or insects. All I need is my Nikon D7100 dslr, a full set of extension tubes, my Tamron sp90, Nikon sb900 & DIY diffuser. Beginning this year, I am concentrating on landscape photography because I want to widen my scope of photography.

QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?

AI don't consider myself semi-professional or professional photographer, but a hobbyist. I enjoy taking pictures and shooting continuously. The more I shoot, the more I learn from my mistakes. And also spending more time viewing/reading other photographers’ work really helps.
