Hi Matthew! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
I'm a photographer with 25 years experience based in Essex, I started photography as part of my job as a Crime Scene Examiner. Moving from medium format to digital camera, I’ve gone from crime scenes to tranquil landscape scenes, as well as weddings and portraiture.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
AI don’t think there can be much weirder photography than that taken at crime scenes. Much of what I took there was mundane but it’s fair to say, there isn’t much that I haven’t seen that would otherwise shock and possibly, horrify some people - that was the nature of the work. Weird now for me, is trying to take photographs of landscapes and falling into mud trying to get that perfect photo, something I’ve done on a number of occasions!
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
A I am currently shooting with a Nikon D800 and Nikon D750. Both of these cameras are perfect for landscapes and weddings and the dynamic range and high ISO range of the D750 is amazing. I use a number of wide angle lenses but my current favourites are the Nikon 20mm F1.8 and the Samyang 14mm f2.8 which I use for both daytime and nighttime images.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
APractice, practice, practice. Photography to me is a bit like a fine wine, the more you nurture it, the better it gets. And with digital there is no end to the amount of practicing and refining you can do.
QWhat's the one thing you love most about Picfair?
A Picfair is such a straightforward and simple way to promote my images and sell them and the whole system makes uploading a breeze.

"Without a doubt my favourite image is my Pier 60 Clearwater Beach Lightning Storm. Taken in 2016, this was the perfect lightning image and something I had wanted to take for quite a while. In England, lightning is quite rare but in Florida it’s very common. What I particularly like about the image is that whilst the storm was a long distance away, it still dominates the skyline both in terms of light and cloud structure." Read less
