Hi Martijn! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?
I'm living in the Netherlands with my wife (just married!) and our beautiful 5 year old daughter, working as an airline captain and walking with a camera in my hand during my spare time. I'm infected with the photography virus and it will never go away.
QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?
ALast week we were shooting the Milky Way and the Perseids meteor shower in the Dunes. We spotted a campfire and went there as it would be a perfect foreground for the milky way. There were around 20 people partying and when they spotted us taking photos they approached us. I showed them what I got and they couldn't believe it. We were offered drinks and were dragged into the party. It was really late when I got home :)
QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?
AI started out with a Nikon D3000 (dx) and some kit lenses. You can do a lot with a basic camera! But as I wanted to have better low light options, I've upgraded to to the Nikon D610 (fx) and have the Nikor 16-35 and 70-200 f4 lenses. For most of the time I'm with my 16-35mm lens and a graduated ND filter + 10 stops filter. This is my go-to setup for my landscape and aviation photography.
QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?
AWhen you go out and shoot, have a vision on how your end product should look like. So think about what you want to achieve and then dial in your settings and press the shutter.
