Interview with Adi Sufyan

07 April 2017

Posted by Gemma Suyat

Hi Adi! Tell us about yourself in two sentences - who are you?

My love for photography comes from my short-lived passion in creating short films and videos, which was a switch I made when I realised that capturing moments and the study of light is something that I love to indulge in. I am passionate about producing creative content and love to explore and seek new knowledge.

QWhat's the weirdest situation you've found yourself in while taking a photograph?

AWhile I was out taking pictures for a job in the streets of New Delhi, there was a brief moment when a cow and its rider approached me from behind. I didn't give much attention to them and was just looking across the street through my viewfinder when all of a sudden, I was startled by a loud sneeze. I had the impression that the rider was down with a cold. However, to my surprise, the cow's nose and mouth was covered in mucus. It was adorably weird because that was my first time being startled by a creature which seemed helpless to clean its nose after a sneeze.

QWhat do you shoot on? What's your favourite set up?

AI'm currently using the Canon EOS 6D and Olympus OMD EM-1. My favourite go-to lens is the Sigma 35mm Art for 6D and the 7-14mm 2.8 for Olympus. I like to use the Olympus setup for landscapes and urban shots as its got the live composite feature and focus peaking. As for my 6D, I use it mainly for portraits due to its wider depth of field.

QWhat's your number one tip for an aspiring photographer?

AFor an aspiring photographer, I always believe that one needs to understand fully the art of lighting as well as the aha! moment in which it needs to be captured. Once you've missed a moment, then it's very hard to relive it again. Last but not least, keep taking pictures with whatever gear you have. It's about being in moments rather than having and comparing expensive gear.

QWhat's the one thing you love most about Picfair?

A One thing I love about Picfair is that it gives photographers a platform to showcase their work. Indefinitely, I truly appreciate that Picfair take action to recognise good pictures even from amateur photographers.

"I used the Metabones converter to connect my EF 17-40mm to my Olympus EM-1 to see if the setup could capture low light cityscapes and I was amazed at how sharp it was. Also, fo... Read more
