Little stands the test of time with such stoic and unrelenting vigour than that most steadfast of Great British traditions; the seaside holiday. Come rain, shine, more rain and a soggy sandcastle or three, when summer hits the UK we flock to favoured shores in our enthusiastic and unwavering droves. For some of that good old-fashioned fun, you’d be hard pushed to find a coastal spot more perfectly wrapped in a bucket and spade spirit than perhaps the most beloved of seafront locales; the blue flag beach at Clacton-on-Sea. A quick peek beyond the crowds, however, reveals far more to this portion of the Essex Sunshine Coast than its arcade and 99s. One man perfectly equipped to show us just how much more, is the ever-passionate Matthew Mallett. From crime scene examiner to now resident of the Essex coast, Matt’s zest for landscape and golden hour imagery offers an incredible in-depth look at the natural beauty and renewed gusto of a rich and visually diverse shore. When he’s not stuck in mud for that perfect shot, of course. To celebrate the side of Clacton few might get to see, we’ve compiled a selection of Matt’s frankly astonishing coastal collection. Take a look.
Engulfed by incoming tide, the partially submerged breakwater offers superb leading lines through frame. A fantastically ethereal long exposure from the shore.
