Our #CelebrateAfrica competition in partnership with Canon and New African encouraged African residents from all walks of life to share their best images that challenged stereotypes ― documenting modern stories that went beyond the hoary cliches.
Image categories open for submission were: “People”, “Nature” and “City Life”, and we received an impressive 2,790 on-the-ground, high quality images from a range of African photographers. The results have been truly remarkable and the judging process has been an absolute joy for all parties.
The winner was announced at Canon’s event in Nigeria earlier today. The grand prize was awarded to Brian Otieno and his stunning photo of film-maker, photographer and model for his self-styled colourful and vintage fashion, Stephen Okoth, taken in the Kibera district of Nairobi. 36 additional winners were also selected which you can view in all their glory below.
