Best of Picfair Stores: February 2019

28 February 2019

Posted by Philip Mowbray

Welcome to our second 'Best of Picfair Stores' showcase! Since the last showcase of our favourite Stores in January, we've seen thousands more photographers setting up theirs in February. Once again we're in awe of their creative flair and we've loved seeing our community, both those new and those who have been with us from the start of Stores and Plus go even further with customising their shop-fronts, with the arrival of custom watermarks and search bars for Plus users with this month's latest feature release (1.3).

In this month's round-up of our favourite Stores, we're highlighting some brilliant custom watermarks, many of which are derived from their Store logo (find out how with our tutorial), striking welcome splash pages, beautifully curated albums... not to mention absolutely stunning photography in all of them! It is our pleasure to present to you each and every one of these Stores, and to all those included our February showcase, we want to say a huge well done!

Keep the amazing Stores coming!

Sebastien Burel

Sebastien is a photographer whose day job as a biologist is definitely reflected in his stunning wildlife, outdoor and nature collections! We're big fans of his minimalist, text-based logo which perfectly compliments the light background theme for the Store. Sebastien has also included a search bar, as seen in the top left corner - making it easy to navigate through his comprehensive image collection. The search bar feature was released this month and we're thrilled to see it put to such good use, Sebastien has also chosen to remove watermarks from his images, another major feature also included in our last feature release.

Urban Photo Lab

Urban Photo Lab's Store opens on a fantastic bespoke welcome splash page, where they have also included bespoke text on the image file to further emphasise the Store's branding. We also love how they have incorporated their own watermark for their images, now possible with the last feature release. The watermark is prominent but not intrusive, complimenting the gorgeous images in their Store, which is fully searchable with the inclusion of the search bar.

Beara Creative

Beara Creative's Store looks fantastic with its minimalist aesthetic and immediately draws attention to the stylish logo and stunning albums. They have also chosen to use the full-screen display for viewing images within albums, allowing each image to take pride-of-place when scrolling and browsing, and we're particularly in awe of their extraordinary underwater shots! They have also linked a bespoke domain (shop.beara-creative.com) and have placed a link in the Store menu to their main website. The bespoke domain is directly relatable to Store's primary purpose - a shop supporting the photographer's main website.

James L. Conway

James L. Conway is a TV director and has worked on a number of iconic and well-known TV shows (check out his bio!) and we can definitely see this influence in his work, which has an unmistakable flair of cinematography to it. James has chosen to display all of his images on his storefront and has done a great job with displaying and ordering his images based on subject, colour and theme, it looks fantastic!

AMiRo Oeuvres

The theme of Amiro's Picfair Store is centred on photography without excessive post-production. The importance of Amiro's aesthetic is reflected in the bio text, and with the beautiful, tightly edited image showcase, using their 'featured album' for the home page display. We also love their custom logo, which fits in perfectly with and the overall presentation of the Store.

Egil Sæbø

Egil has chosen an absolute showstopper for his welcome splash page, which works brilliantly with his name, which he has chosen to display along with the image, another option for welcome splash pages and it is simple and striking. We think the dark theme works incredibly well with Egil's atmospheric Nordic landscapes.

Ken McDougal

Ken McDougal has a growing number of over 600 images on his Picfair Store, and navigating through his catalogue is made easy by an extensive collection of carefully-curated themed albums, based on popular image subjects, themes and locations. The branding throughout Ken's Picfair Store works very well with the images and is consistent throughout, helped by way of creating a watermark from his logo (tutorial here) and also displaying this on his beautiful welcome splash page. Great job Ken!

Tyler McGuinness

Tyler McGuinness is a photographer based on Oahu, Hawaii, and uses the island as a springboard for creating extraordinary images. The dark theme accentuates the vivid tropical colours of the Hawaiian landscape, and the image set works really well with all Picfair branding stripped away. Tyler has also chosen to link a name-based domain to his Store (tylermcguinness.com) - fantastic for any personal photography website!

Jekabs Silacerps

What we're immediately struck by with Jekabs's Picfair Store is the catchy and memorable domain he has linked to his Store (ishoothings.co.uk). This leads to a beautiful set of curated albums covering a range of themes - from landscapes and cityscapes to macro photography and astrophotography, each with its own stunning headline image!

John Vlahakis

John's Picfair Store is another example of a beautifully laid-out storefront using the square display format, and we love the mix of images on the storefront. All images have their watermarks removed, and makes for pleasant viewing and browsing of images, similar to that of a social media feed.

If you haven't thought about setting up a Picfair Store yet or upgrading to Plus yet, you can see all the benefits Stores and Plus can offer your photography here. And please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, we would love to hear from you: stores@picfair.com.
