Loo, lav, the john, latrine, bog, privy, little boys’ room, commode, khazi, water closet, urinal, dunny, the can. Just a smattering of synonyms for the humble toilet, I’ll leave you to think of the ruder ones.
Whilst some may think that Thomas Crapper invented the flushing toilet, that achievement actually belongs to John Harington way back in 1596. Crapper was the first person to display toilets, baths and sinks for sale in a showroom. He’s also not responsible for the word ‘crap’, sorry about that.
The WC comes in all shapes and sizes; from a hole in the ground to an all singing, all dancing affair (OK, maybe it doesn’t dance) that strikes up a tune the moment you sit on it. Most of the tunes are by Looloo. Sorry.
So there you have it; entertainment and worthy causes, just for spending a penny. We’ve selected an array of shots depicting bogs across the globe. Carry on at your convenience.
