How did an amateur photographer get his image featured on the cover of Nat Geo?

Interviews

13 June 2018

Posted by Joseph Hobbs

“I was out shopping when I got the email saying my photo was on the front cover and I could not believe it. It was an amazing feeling. I bought two copies: one to read, and one to frame”

Trevor Mills is a Quality Staff Engineer for Bombardier in Belfast. He’s also an amateur photographer who takes photos on his travels with his Sony A6000. He never expected to make any money from his hobby, until he started using Picfair.

“I would have thought that Nat Geo would only be using shots from a pool of professional photographers. I never expected to sell any photos, never mind get featured on a respected magazine like Nat Geo Traveller."

It's simple with Picfair. Anyone can sign up and upload their images, and let us take care of the rest.

"I was out shopping when I got the e-mail saying my photo was on the front cover and I couldn't believe it. I went into a newsagents and there it was. It was an amazing feeling seeing it on the cover of a national magazine with my name credited inside. I bought 2 copies - 1 to read and 1 to frame. I don't think I stopped smiling for days!”

“I was in Kandy, Sri Lanka on holiday with my wife Jennifer. We like to create our own itinerary and use local transport where possible. A group of school children had just boarded a local train, so I asked for a photo. It was completely natural, just some friendly Sri Lankans. I like to try and get something a little different and try to explore a little further or stay a little later at a location than most people would.

"I love Picfair. It’s simple and quick to upload my photos - I can just post and forget. I also love getting the occasional retweet - it does encourage me to post more. The weekly e-mails and top 10’s are also helpful; it’s great to see the amazing photos getting posted. I tried some other agencies, but now I just use Picfair. Before I joined, most of my photos were just sitting on my hard drive and never got seen”.

Now, Trevor has a Nat Geo Traveller cover photo to add to his CV! It's easy to get started with Picfair, and we're open to everyone.

We welcome both professional and amateur photographers to submit their work to Picfair. In fact, anyone can join, and our open door policy means we have the most authentic images available for license on the marketplace!
