Last week in London, Big Ben’s famous bongs rang for the last time ahead of a 4-year hiatus. The clock and the Great Bell, housed inside Elizabeth Tower and known by the name Big Ben, are to undergo repairs, meaning its famous chimes will be unheard in the capital until 2021. As a popular tourist hotspot, its silence will be noticed by visitors and Londoners alike. Members of Parliament are already in debate as to debating whether the move is justified, with some even claiming that “Big Ben is terribly important to the mental wellbeing of the nation”. With its bongs now silenced, we celebrate the landmark of Big Ben in its muted beauty with these seventeen beautiful photographs.
