With an impressive and ever expanding collection already a thousand strong, even the most seasoned of travellers could be forgiven for not quite managing to work their way through the entire list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites scattered across the globe. When we do pack bags and cameras and head to city, coast and countries new, the chances are we’ll be drawn to the better known of the culturally magnificent bunch; from China’s Great Wall to Notre-Dame; the Acropolis to Cuzco; The Great Barrier Reef to Wiltshire’s own Neolithic Stonehenge. Away from the spotlight and throngs of crowds, however, lies a lesser known selection equally stunning in merit as significant sites of outstanding universal value, not to mention fantastic photographic opportunity.
