2017 saw Hong Kong marking 20 years since the territory was handed from Britain to China, bringing an end to more than 150 years of colonial rule.
More than seven million citizens live in an area that is a little more than a thousand km2, making it the fourth most densely populated country on Earth. Consequently there are an enormous amount of skyscrapers in the city (1,223 at the time of writing), with 36 of the world's 100 tallest residential buildings in Hong Kong.
From a photography viewpoint this can lead to some spectacular imagery, with very few places on Earth able to offer this scope in regards to urban sprawl. At night this is arguably even more of a truism, with the city able to produce some eye-catching, Blade Runner-esque images. Here are some of the best from the Picfair library.
