10 Haunting and Beautiful Images of Shipwrecks

Themed Collections

03 October 2017

Posted by Philip Mowbray

UNESCO estimates that there are over 3 million shipwrecks scattered around the globe, many of which are thousands of years old. Some will forever be forgotten, never to be found in their final resting place at the bottom of the sea. Ill-fated voyages and shipwrecks have been the subject of curiosity, legend and lore for centuries and they still continue to fascinate to this day. Just how much lost and forgotten treasure lies beneath the sea? Many foundered ships can still be explored today; those washed up on craggy shores or decaying on isolated stretches of sand, eventually to be fully reclaimed by nature. Here are 10 haunting, beautiful and intriguing images from the Picfair collection of shipwrecks from every corner of the world.
